In the previous posts in the how to be happy series, Part 1 and Part 2, I discussed what True Happiness is … what Authentic Happiness is.

I explained that True Happiness is not the absence of negative emotion and the presence of certain positive emotions.

I explained that True Happiness is Experiencing all emotions without names, descriptions and labels.

You may have understood and resonated with what I shared.

You might not have.

Or it might have seemed impossible to achieve in your day to day life.

You already know how to be happy all the time, you’ve experienced it many times …

Actually, you’ve experienced what I call True Happiness or Authentic Happiness — exactly as I defined it — many times already without knowing it.

Let me give you 4 examples, although you’ll find many more in your memory banks, so to speak.

Example 1: Riding A Roller Coaster

When you ride a roller coaster (or any high speed ride at an amusement park) — if you enjoy that sort of experience — you experience many emotions.

They whiz by very quickly. What I call The Mind Machine does NOT stop the flow to say “This is fear, this is adrenaline rush, this is excitement.”

The emotions just whiz by without labels, descriptions, or judgments.

Because the context of an amusement park ride is to have fun, The Mind Machine doesn’t intervene like it does in normal life.  That’s True Happiness!

Example 2: Reading a Great Novel

When you read a great novel, you experience many emotions as the story unfolds. Like riding the roller coaster, those emotions just whiz by as you turn the pages.

You’re aware of them all, but The Mind Machine doesn’t label them, describe them, or judge them. 

Because the context of reading a novel is entertainment, The Mind Machine doesn’t intervene like it does in normal life.  

That’s True Happiness!

Example 3: Watching a Great Movie

When you watch a great movie, you experience many emotions as the story unfolds. Like riding the roller coaster and reading the great novel, those emotions whiz by as the minutes pass.

You’re aware of them all, but The Mind Machine doesn’t label them, describe them, or judge them. 

Because the context of watching a movie is entertainment, The Mind Machine doesn’t intervene like it does in normal life.  That’s True Happiness!

Example 4: If You’re A Phase 2 Player

If you’re a Phase 2 Player and have been actively applying The Teachings and using the tools, virtually every time you’ve applied The Process, you’ve experienced a moment, maybe longer, where The Mind Machine disengaged and you Experienced the pure, raw emotional energy — without labels, descriptions or judgments.

That’s True Happiness.

If you’ve been playing the Phase 2 Game a long time, you’ve therefore had the EXPERIENCE of True Happiness hundreds, maybe thousands of times without realizing it.

Have you noticed a pattern here? 

When The Mind Machine doesn’t intervene, you experience True Happiness — no matter what’s going on. It just happens … without you having to “do” anything.

When The Mind Machine does intervene, when it observes the flow of inner energy called emotion, separates out segments of the flow, labels them, describes them, and judges them as positive or negative, you’re rarely happy.

So, the key to how to be happy all the time, no matter what’s going on around you, is to have a consistent Experience in which The Mind Machine doesn’t intervene.

Easier said than done, to be sure, but do-able, day-in, day-out, 24×7.

I live that way as do many others worldwide at this point in time who’ve embraced The Teachings.

As the old saying goes, “put that in your pipe and smoke it” for a while.

Here’s the big key that opens the door to how to always be happy …

There’s a part of you that observes everything in Inner Space and Story Space. I call this part of you “The Mind Machine.” It works in a precise way, and for a precise reason.

As I explained, the flow of emotional energy in Inner Space is nonstop. From the time we’re children and growing up, what happens is The Mind Machine observes that flow. It’s always watching, always observing. As it watches, it pulls one specific “movement” in the flow of the flow out of the flow, and says “That’s anger and that’s bad.”

All emotions are just movements of energy. Not good. Not bad. Not painful. Not pleasurable. Not anger or happiness or frustration of serenity.

They’re all just movements of energy, inherently neutral or pleasant if you must describe them.

The Mind Machine focuses on one, yanks it out of the flow, labels it, describes it, judges it, and then stores the label, description and judgment for future use in its “database,” just like a computer does.

Then, as The Mind Machine continues to watch the inner flow of energy, anytime it sees a similar appearance in Inner Space that it’s got in its database, it says, lightning fast, “Oh, I know what that is. That’s anger, and that’s bad. Oh, I know what that is. That’s peace, and that’s good.” 

Then it all becomes an autopilot thing. Boom, boom, boom I’m stressed out. Boom, boom, boom, I’m angry. Boom, boom, boom,  I’m depressed. And, yes, sometimes, boom, boom, boom, I’m happy or at peace.

There’s nothing in the emotion itself, the flow of energy itself, that says “this is anger” or “this is happy.” There’s nothing in the movement of energy itself that tells you it’s bad, uncomfortable, or unpleasant, if we’re speaking about the so-called negative emotions.

There’s nothing there, within the pure, raw experience itself, that says anything at all about the experience. It’s all made up, a story that’s bonded to the pure, raw experience.

Now, the flip of that, obviously, is true, too. There’s nothing in the movement of energy itself that says it’s good, it’s comfortable, or it’s pleasant. All of that’s just a big story that’s fused to the energy too — what I’m fond of calling “a big lie, illusion, and story kicked out by The Mind Machine.”

In order for you to experience True Happiness, something has to shift in a big way. Something has to separate the pure movement of energy, the pure emotion, the pure feeling, from the story and the judgment that’s been bonded to it. Something has to then keep it separated, so The Truth can be Seen and Experienced.

This is not some esoteric, spiritual, airy-fairy idea or concept. It’s very practical, very do-able by you and me and everyone else (if it’s part of the story).

That’s the zillion dollar question everyone wants the answer to – how to be happy?

As I mentioned in an earlier post, underneath all our goals and wants is the desire to be happy.

If we do experience what we’d call “happiness,” it doesn’t last.

None of the experts, and I do mean none of the experts, has a sure fire recipe that works for getting it back when it disappears.

Most experts on happiness – and when I say experts, I mean doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, self-help experts, authors, anyone that claims to have expertise on how to be very happy – say there are positive emotions and negative emotions.

The negative ones are bad and we want to get rid of them. The positive ones are good and we want more of them. That’s the party line.

Here’s the unexamined fantasy about how to be happy …

If there are positive and negative emotions, and happiness is one of the positives, then the only way to always be happy is find a way to make all the negative emotions disappear.

That’s the fantasy, the story, the unexamined belief.

Well, there are two things you need to know about that fantasy:

1. It’s NEVER going to happen. Negative emotions will never “disappear”
2. Making negative emotions disappear is not what authentic happiness is all about

What does happen, then?

What is authentic happiness all about?

Lets take a brutally honest look.

Life, or what I call The Human Experience, has two spheres of experience to it. I now call those two spheres “Story Space” and “Inner Space“:

• Story Space is where all the people are, all the places are, all the things and objects. Story space is everyone and everything that appears to be outside of you. It also includes your body.

• Inner Space, as the name would suggest, is the space that appears to exist inside of you. You can’t see it. You can’t touch it. Nobody else can see or touch it. It’s perceived as a vast inner space inside of you.

What are emotions? It’s impossible to describe accurately, but the best I can do is call them “movements of energy in Inner Space.”

There are times when the movement of energy in Inner Space appears to be pretty quiet. There are times when the movement of energy appears to be stronger and more intense. There are times when it’s so intense and strong, it’s almost like a hurricane or tornado inside you. That’s how the big emotional storms always felt to me.

In your daily life, as it relates to emotions, there’s a constant movement of energy in Inner Space. It’s never at rest when you’re conscious, even when it seems to be.

It’s constantly moving, just like the sea, lakes, oceans, and other bodies of water are always moving, even if they appear to be still on the surface.

The inner movement of emotional energy has an infinite variety of expressions.

Music is a really great metaphor for this. Music has an infinite variety of expressions. It’s all just “music,” but we call certain expressions jazz, rock, classical, pop, new age, etc.

We learn to freeze and then break the constant flow of emotional energy into pieces. We label those pieces with words like anger, depression, happiness, and peace.

We judge the pieces and labels by calling them positive, negative, pleasurable, painful, like, don’t like, hate, love.

We accept those labels and judgments as true. And then, the freezing, breaking into pieces, labeling and judging goes on autopilot.

Boom, boom, boom, lightning fast so we don’t even realize it’s happening in daily life.

Would it surprise you to hear that most of this gets “programmed” and locked into place when we’re kids, and then runs on autopilot for years, decades, lifetimes?

And we forget that we’re the ones who “did it” — that we’re the ones who convinced ourselves we were “unhappy” most of the time!

I’m going to continue my discussion of why the attract abundance and prosperity and how to attract money techniques fail in this post, then we’re going to shift gears for a while and come back to the discussion in the future.

Like the Phase 1 dynamic I discussed in the last post, this next reason is HUGELY responsible for why so many of the techniques fail to work — at all or reliably.

I’m talking about the gigantic difference between ideas and concepts … and Experience (with a capital E).

So many people, including me in my younger years, believe if we understand something, that gives us power that can lead to transformation in and of itself.

For example, we believe if we understand we’re really Spiritual Beings having a physical experience, that somehow helps us experience the Infinite Abundance that’s our natural state.

It doesn’t.

As another example, we think if we understand we’re all One, we’re all part of one Consciousness, that somehow helps us experience that Oneness. It doesn’t.

As another example, many Players who are aware of The Teachings believe if they understand that everything in the physical world is ultimately an illusion, a hologram, that gives them power to change things.

It doesn’t.

Ideas and concepts can be tricky. Knowing about them, understanding them, sometimes seems to be Experience, feels like Experience, but it’s not.

Ideas, concepts, intellect, logic and understanding cannot attract abundance and prosperity or attract money …

Intellect, logic and understanding of ideas and concepts that accurately point to Truth are often an important and valuable first step, but something must happen to turn those ideas and concepts into actual EXPERIENCE or nothing changes.

For those of you aware of The Teachings, that “something” is knocking out the cloud cover, or seriously undermining its structural integrity.

That’s what leads to True Transformation.

That’s what I found a way to do — turn ideas and concepts into actual Experiences Of Truth — for myself and others — how turn ideas and concepts into True abundance and prosperity and the ability to Truly attract money.

Welcome to our continuing discussion of why prosperity and abundance techniques fail.

It’s time to go into the less obvious — and more important — reasons why the magic bullet techniques fail most of the time.

And make no mistake, they DO fail most of the time. That’s not my opinion or theory. That’s what you see if you look with open and brutally honest eyes.

Here’s the biggest reason why prosperity and abundance techniques fail …

I’m not kidding. What follows IS the biggest reason why the prosperity thinking, wealth consciousness, manifest prosperity, and attracting abundance techniques fail.

And it’s something very few people know about or can tell you. I’m a bit of a lone wolf in the wilderness on this particular topic.

Once again, I expect many people to think I’m nuts, disagree with me, or argue vehemently that I’m wrong, wrong, wrong.

It’s The Truth nevertheless. And it’s something you can prove to yourself … if you choose to take the Journey Into Truth that I took, and tens of thousands of others have taken at this point, worldwide.

We're All Spiritual Beings Having A Physical Experience

You’ve no doubt heard a saying like this: “We are Spiritual Beings having a physical experience.”

That saying is absolutely accurate. However, there are many myths, lies, illusions and stories about what “physical experience” really means.

In our natural state as Spiritual Beings, we Experience what I call Infinite Power, Infinite Wisdom, Infinite Abundance and True Joy all the time.

Experiencing all of that is no big deal to who we REALLY are. It’s really quite ho-hum, even though many of us would do almost anything to Experience it.

We chose to have a physical experience to experience something different — just like we read books, go to movies, play video games, and visit Disney World to have all sorts of experiences different from our day-to-day “norm.”

We didn’t choose a physical experience to learn lessons, evolve, work off karma, earn our way into higher states of Consciousness or other dimensions, etc.

We came here to play, explore, and express ourselves creatively in ways that aren’t possible in our natural state — and in our Home that I affectionately refer to as “InfinteLand.”

The physical experience we came here to have, what I call “The Human Experience” or “The Human Game,” was divided into three “phases” that I call Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3.

I’m going to introduce Phase 1 in this post, then come back to it and discuss Phase 2 and 3 in future posts.

A Spiritual Being can experience one, two or all three of the phases. It’s a choice, just like you can choose what books to read, what movies to watch, what video games to play, and what rides to ride at an amusement park.

In Phase 1 of The Human Game, the whole point was to allow us, as Spiritual Beings, to have an experience that’s OPPOSITE to our natural state.

So, since our natural state is Infinite Power, Infinite Wisdom, Infinite Abundance and True Joy, the goal in Phase 1 is to experience what’s possible with an the opposite experience, which means:

• Not powerful, even powerless in most ways
• Not wise, meaning we don’t know a lot of stuff and must learn it, or we’re actually “stupid” or “ignorant” in many ways
• Not abundant, meaning a lack of abundance, or an experience of abundance that comes and goes
• Not happy campers most of the time, but desperately wanting to be

Look around — at your own life and the lives of those you know and see around you. In our own unique ways, that’s how most people feel and perceive themselves in Phase 1!

Which brings me back to the biggest reason why the develop prosperity consciousness techniques fail.

As long as you’re playing in Phase 1, they must fail.

Why?

Because the whole point in Phase 1 is to experience the opposite of your natural state of Infinite Abundance!

This post is going to be short, sweet, and right to the point. Most people would put manifesting prosperity at the very top of their wish list.

Those same people would generally look at the lack of manifesting prosperity as a bad thing.

I beg to differ.

See, for most people, when they have a lot of money, that abundance translates into a lot of options. That increase in options often translates into a lack of focus. That lack of focus often translates into spinning your wheels, a loss of productivity, and being majorly distracted from what’s truly most important to you.

Sometimes a lack of manifesting prosperity is the best thing that could possibly happen to you …

Sometimes, the best thing the can happen to you on your journey, for short or long periods, is to have less money available because it keeps your options limited, it keeps you focused, and it keeps you on a single track — like horses that have those blinders on their eyes so they can only look forward.

I say this from deep personal experience of witnessing what happens with a tight money supply and a wide open money supply — in my own life and the lives of many others whose journeys I have knowledge about.

Most people would argue me to the death about this. I fully expect to receive numerous comments saying I’m nuts, or this is just some sort of impractical, airy-fairy, esoteric idea.

But it’s not. It’s very practical. And VERY important.

As I’ve talked about in past posts, and as I’ll talk about again in future posts, there’s a plan for your life. You have a specific mission and life purpose. Often, to fulfill that mission and purpose, which is what you REALLY want, what your life is REALLY about, it involves having a limited supply of money — your whole life or at certain times.

That’s just The Truth, whether you like it or not, whether you wish it was different or not, and whether or not it conflicts with what many gurus and experts say about manifesting prosperity being everyone’s “birthright.”

In a recent post, I asked you to take an honest look at prosperity and abundance techniques and to see that the world and very few individual lives have actually changed after all the time, money, effort and energy invested in them.

Today I’m going to start a discussion of the “Big Why” behind that obvious fact. I say “obvious fact,” because it IS what you see if you look closely, objectively, and with brutal honesty. Many people will not or cannot do that, of course, because they’re mesmerized by lies, illusions and stories, and have an investment in certain beliefs being true.

We’ll start with the 4 most obvious reasons why the manifesting abundance and develop an abundance mentality techniques fail, and then continue the discussion in future posts by diving into the less obvious reasons, which are actually far more important for us to discuss.

The 4 most obvious reasons why prosperity and abundance techniques fail …

Reason #1: People Don’t “Do” Anything

This is one of those “Duh … of course” reasons, and yet it’s rampant in the world, or what I now call “Story Space.”

That is, people listen to an audio, watch a video, attend an event, read a book, discover techniques, but never apply them. There are zillions of reasons why they don’t apply the techniques, but they don’t, and therefore, nothing changes.

Reason #2: People “Do” Something In A Half-Assed Way Or Change The “Recipe”

This is rampant “out there” in Story Space too. Someone will discover a technique that has 5 steps, for example, and intentionally (or carelessly) skip the 4th step, only doing steps 1, 2, 3 and 5.

Or they look at the 5 steps, decide they “know better” than the expert they learned from, and alter one or more of the steps. They therefore change the “recipe” and are then surprised (interestingly enough) when the “cake” doesn’t turn out correctly, or as “tasty” as they hoped.

Or, they take the new technique, and another technique they like or believe in or have an investment in, and try to cobble them together to create a new “super technique.” By doing that, however, they again change the “recipe,” and the cake rarely turns out well, even though many will insist the super technique is better.

There are many variations on this theme. You get the idea. You’ve probably done it yourself. I know I did in Phase 1.

Reason #3: People Are Profoundly Impatient And Give Up Too Soon

People who “sell” things are fond of making Big Promises about how fast a result can be produced using their magic bullet technique (which, by the way, I never do). As a result, many people are taught or conditioned to become what I call “profoundly impatient.” 

They want results “yesterday,” and if they don’t get them as fast as they’d like, as fast as they were promised, or as fast as someone else claimed to get the result, they abandon the technique and move on to the latest fad or flavor “super technique” of the day.

I could write a thousand blog posts about this one reason alone, but you get the idea. Again, it’s likely you’ve fallen prey to this. I know I did, over and over, in Phase 1.

Reason #4: People Trust The Mind When They Shouldn’t

Most self-help, personal development, and success systems tell you to begin by setting goals. By “setting goals,” they mean getting clear on what you want, getting very specific on what you want, and getting clear on when you want it.

You ask yourself questions, fill out forms, write freely on paper, create Vision Boards, whatever. That’s the magic formula.

But here’s the thing. Where do the goals come from? Where do the precise details come from? Where does the preferred timing come from?

The mind.

And what is the mind filled with? Mostly lies, illusions and stories that aren’t True.

Therefore, what we pump through the super techniques is likely to be filled with lies, illusions, stories and distortion.

Therefore, for reasons I’ll discuss in future posts, we don’t get what we want, we don’t enjoy it if we do get what we want (or our overall quality of life doesn’t really change), or we get what we want, temporarily, but the change doesn’t last.

Millions of people bought copies of a book called The Secret that claimed to offer a magic formula for creating prosperity and abundance and “attracting” whatever you want.

Millions of other books have been sold claiming to offer magic formulas for developing an abundance mentality, how to attract money, prosperity thinking, wealth consciousness, on and on.

On top of all those books, zillions of DVDs, CDs, ebooks, online courses, videos and audios have been shared also claiming to offer magic formulas.

All told, millions of people have spent God knows how much time, money and energy applying the magic formulas for manifesting abundance.

And this isn’t just happening now. It has been going on throughout all of recorded history.

So here are two million dollar questions for you …

1. Is the world a more prosperous and abundant place as a result of all that time, money, energy and effort?
    
2. Is the average person who applied the magic formulas (including you) experiencing more prosperity and abundance on a consistent basis?

The truth?

No.

Oh sure, there are lots of stories about people who applied the magic formulas and experienced more prosperity and abundance, but …

Some are true, many aren’t true, and the vast majority experienced temporary increases in abundance that didn’t last.

And don’t even get me started on whether their overall quality of life improved, even if their net worth or bank account did (although I will “get started” in a future blog post).

The bottom line is, after all the millions of dollars, hours, and energies invested, with few real exceptions, the world hasn’t changed at all, and very few individual lives have either.

Not one bit.

In fact, many would say the current “recession” is one of the worst on record, and others fear the worst is yet to come. 

So here’s the next million dollar question …

Why?

If the formulas are so powerful and magical, why hasn’t the world, your life, and the lives of millions of others throughout the world changed?

There’s gotta be a reason.

What do you think of when you think about prosperity and abundance?

I’m not talking about what you might say about prosperity and abundance to pass a test, appear smart or spiritual, or recycle something you’ve learned.

I’m talking about what you really believe about prosperity and abundance.

Most honest talk about prosperity and abundance centers around 3 things:

• Having lots of money — a big surplus over your “fixed overhead”
• Being able to spend freely on whatever, especially stuff and things (cars, clothes, first class airfare, electronic toys, luxury items, having a big and beautiful home, multiple homes, etc.)
• “Lots of…” in general

In fact, the dictionary definition of prosperity is “successful in material terms; flourishing financially” and the dictionary definition of abundance is “a very large quantity of something;  plentifulness of the good things of life.”

That’s Not What Prosperity And Abundance Really Are

Most definitions of prosperity and abundance are filled with fantasies that will never actually manifest.

Prosperity and abundance aren’t about money, income, net worth, stuff and things, or lots of <fill in the blank>.

Prosperity and abundance are about power. Prosperity and abundance are about a specific form of creative power being freely in motion.
